RAMALLAH, June 8, 2014 (WAFA) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday recalled the Representative of Australia to Palestine, Thomas Wilson, to protest against remarks made by the Attorney-General of Australia, George Brandis, in which he called for not referring to East Jerusalem as an occupied territory.

During a press conference in Ramallah, Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Maliki expressed worries over Brandis’ remarks, in contrary with all international resolutions and the international community’s position on Jerusalem.

Al-Maliki called on the Australia Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide an official clarification on their announced position towards occupied East Jerusalem.

He considered the remarks as an “indicator to Australia’s change of policy” which was repeated through several situations over the past few months.

Al-Maliki said further that the League of Arab States is due to hold a special round of meetings during mid June to discuss Australia’s position.

On the other side, Representative Wilson said the position announced by Brandis will never change Australia’s position towards Palestine.
